Hundreds of Bay Area residents benefit each year from the Library’s popular book club services.
The Book Club in a Box program allows book groups to borrow sets of twelve copies of more than 120 titles, including fiction, plays, memoirs, and non-fiction, written by authors from sixteen countries over the course of the past century. They also receive guidance regarding the selection of appropriate books, and resources to enhance their reading and discussion.
Participants in One Bay One Book engage in a year-long conversation around a single book and its themes. The selection this past year was The Betrayers by David Bezmozgis, winner of the 2014 National Jewish Book Award for fiction.
The Drop-in Book Club at the Library is a no-commitment book group for people who are not necessarily part of an existing group, but who would like to take part in book discussions.
All of these services are offered free of charge in order to erase economic barriers to participation. However, they cost a great deal to provide, and we request your support. If you would like to donate to the Friends’ Book Club Fund, select Book Club Fund from the pull-down menu when making your donation, or type “Book Club” in the Notes field when making your donation. Or you can make your gift by phone at 415.567.3327 x705.
